Norton resident, Steve Thompson passed away Thursday, January 20, 2022 at the Andbe Home in Norton, KS at the age of 81.
Steve was born June 12, 1940 in Superior, NE the son of Kenneth Earl and Dorothy (Dugas) Thompson. He graduated from Superior High School.
He was united in marriage to Esther Langer on June 9, 1962 in Superior, NE. Following their marriage the couple made their home in Norton, Kansas
Steve was a mechanic and a truck driver, retiring from Norton County. He enjoyed driving the activity bus for the Norton Bluejays for a few years. In his free time, Steve enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodworking, and raising Quarter Horses. He especially enjoyed his time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife Esther of Norton; son Eric and wife Kellie of Norton; daughters Monica Bach and husband Anthony of Woodruff, KS, Natalie Wallace and husband Alex of Garden City, KS, and Paula McKenna and husband Greg of Selden, KS; brothers Dennis and wife Rita of Beloit, Pat and wife Sally of Kernersville, NC; a sister Joan Bargen and husband Bill of Omak, Washington; 17 grandchildren Caleb, Calen, Colten, and Caden Bach; Marlee Ediger, Landee, Hallee, and Baylee McKenna; Brittany Lance, Cameron and Austin Wallace; Katelyn Branstetter and Patricia Ortiz; Kenzie, Kassidy, and Kaylie Thompson; and Jacob Tharp; and 9 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a son Scott.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, January 25, 2022 at the St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Norton with Father Matthew Cowan officiating. The services will be streamed live on the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel Facebook page. Burial will follow in the Norton Cemetery.
Mr. Thompson will lie in state from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday at the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel, Phillipsburg. The family will receive friends for a wake from 6:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. Monday evening at the St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, Norton, with a Rosary to follow at 7:30 p.m.
