A special life has passed from our lives as Suzan Marie (Hooper) Kern was called home by her
Heavenly Father on May 28, 2010 in Wichita, Kansas at the age of 55 after a lengthy battle with
cancer. Suzie fought this battle with courage, dignity, and a serenity attributed to her spiritual faith and a positive attitude that never failed. She used her experience with cancer to encourage and uplift many others in like circumstances.

Suzie was born in Smith Center, Kansas on February 14, 1955 to Stanley Earl and Helen Joyce
(Patman) Hooper. She graduated from Phillipsburg High School in 1973 and from Fort Hays
State University in 1977.

On May 23, 1981, Suzie was united in marriage to Donald Allen Kern in Phillipsburg, Kansas.
She and Don made their home in Wichita, Kansas.

She was a valued employee of Commerce Clearing House in Wichita, Kansas, where she had
worked as a Release Analyst for fourteen years.

She was a loving wife, daughter, and sister. Her special way of bringing sunshine into the lives
of others will be especially missed by her friends and family.

She was preceded in death by grandparents Earl and Alice Hooper and Leonard and Marie
Patman, and her mother-in-law, Jeanne Kern.

Suzie is survived by her loving husband, Donald Kern of Wichita, Kansas; her parents, Stanley
and Helen Hooper of Smith Center, Kansas; her sisters, Sharon Hooper of Derby, Kansas and
Sheila Germeroth and husband David of Denver, Colorado, father-in-law, Elwin Kern, Salem,
Arkansas, as well as aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 1, 2010 at the Smith Center Evangelical Free
Church at 10:30 a.m. with Pastor Greg H. Hubbard officiating. Burial followed in the Fairview Cemetery, Smith Center, KS.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society and may be sent in care of the funeral home.
