Obituary

Terry Lynn Kipp, 70, died Thursday, July 22, 2021. He was born January 8, 1951 at Dr. Mary's office in Phillipsburg, KS, to Sam and Lela (Weinman) Kipp.  He was the oldest of three kids. A lifelong Phillips County resident, he graduated with the Class of 1969 from Phillipsburg High School. He survived a motorcycle accident in September 1969, ending his plans to enlist in the Navy. At that time, doctors discussed amputating his left leg; he informed them that would not happen under any circumstance! Miraculously, they were able to keep his leg. He went on to marry his high school sweetheart, Susan (Van Allen) Kipp on August 20, 1971.  From this union, two children were blessed.

Terry had many talents and would be the definition of "Jack of all trades."  He was employed at Leonard Ford Motors, owned and operated Terry's Body Shop, worked at Tamko, was a volunteer fireman for the Phillips County Fire Department, and the head of maintenance at Phillips County Hospital for several years.  When he wasn't working his full-time job, he could be found racing at demolition derbys, riding broncs in rodeos, or working in his garage.  He also found time to weld, do leather work, learn silversmithing, and wasn't afraid of the kitchen. He was a cowboy and country man to the core. He loved boots with lots of color, which he preferred to wear with his jeans tucked inside his boots. He loved all animals but especially horses, dogs, and cattle.

Tough as nails in everything he did, he could not defeat addiction.  Addiction took his marriage of 28 years, it resulted in a farming accident that ultimately took his legs, and caused much turmoil in his relationships with family and friends.

He is survived by his significant other, Jayne Jarvis. Also surviving are his children, daughter, Tara (Jeff) Marshall, Hays, and son Adam Kipp, Phillipsburg; grandchildren, Spencer Marshall, Ethan Marshall, and Ellery Marshall, Hays; is sisters, Mary (Allan) Jackson, Phillipsburg; Becky (Alan) Whitney, Prairie View; as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

"As we say farewell, please feel no sorrow, for time on this earth, we only borrow. And now that my journey has come to its end, please know and take comfort in this my friend. For me, for my life, please do not grieve, for now I remain forever free." Author Unknown
