Tommy Ray
Hadley
September 12, 1949 – April 6, 2021
Tommy Ray Hadley, son of Leland & Betty Lucille (Anglin) Hadley, was born September 12, 1949 at the Hadley Memorial Hospital in Hays, KS. He passed away April 6, 2021 at the University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City, KS at the age of 71.
He grew up in Hill City, KS, where he attended school, graduating with the Hill City High School Class of 1967. After graduation, Tommy moved to Phillipsburg where he worked at Tamko Roofing in the felt mill for a couple of years. In 1970, he moved to Salina & worked for the Salina Fire Dept until 1973 when he moved to Kensington to work on Gerald & Betty Hoover's hog farm.
While living in Kensington, Tommy met the love of his life, Mildred Kuhlmann. They were married October 23, 1976 at the St. John Lutheran Church in Athol, KS. They would have celebrated 45 years of marriage this year. On March 15, 1995, Tommy & Mildred were blessed with the adoption of their children, Kevin Lee & Roberta (Robbie) Marie.
Tommy worked at the Farmland warehouse for a couple of years before starting his own business, H&S Insulation which he ran for 10 years. He then started a new venture, Hadley's Sandblasting & Painting until his retirement in December of 2020.
His many passions included rodeoing with his best friend Danzey Price, traveling many miles over the years. He rode both bulls & bareback broncs, even finishing 18 th in the World Old Timers Rodeo when he was in his 40's. He served as a committee man on the Phillipsburg Rodeo Association for 23 years & made many trips to the NFR in Las Vegas. He also played men's slow pitch softball for many years. Tommy enjoyed coaching & watching wrestling. One of his favorite things was hauling Travis & Lee to wrestling tournaments & clinics all over the country. He also enjoyed raising & running race horses, golfing & going to the casinos.
Tommy's kids, grandkids, nieces & nephews were his life & enjoyment. He pulled many pranks on people & loved scaring people & handing out treats to the kids on Halloween.
In 2016, Tommy & Mildred celebrated their 40 th anniversary by taking a cruise to one of their favorite places, Alaska. He loved fishing & hunting deer from his stand. Tom & Mildred spent many hours riding around the countryside on Sunday afternoons & evenings (a lot of time during COVID) just looking for wildlife & enjoying the scenery. They also enjoyed looking for deer sheds together.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his nephew Troy Stites & his mother-in-law Doris Kuhlmann.
Survivors include his wife Mildred of the home; his children: Kevin Lee Hadley & Robbie Asher & husband Tyler; his son/nephew Travis Stites & wife Alyssa all of Phillipsburg; 2 sisters, Sherry Stites & husband Wayne of McPherson & Kathy (David) Dechant of Marion, IA; his father-in-law Vernon Kuhlmann of Roundup, MT; 6 grandchildren: Tucker Ray Hadley, River Mae Asher, Fisher Jay Asher, Bella, Briley & Bryson Stites as well as many nieces & nephews.
Funeral services will be held Monday, April 12 at 10:00 a.m. in the Emmanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church, Stuttgart, with Pastor Lee Bennight officiating. The service will be streamed live on the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel Facebook page. Burial will follow in the Pleasant View Cemetery, Palco.
Visitation will be from noon to 9:00 Sat. & Sun. at the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel with the family receiving friends from 3:00 to 5:00 Sunday.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Shriner's Hospital or the Phillipsburg Rodeo Association.
