Velda Christy, 94, passed away on June 15, 2025, at the Phillips County Retirement Center, in Phillipsburg, Kansas.

Velda Nadine was born on January 23, 1931, at home, near Hopewell, Kansas, to her parents Elmer and Viola (Neelly) Johnson.

She graduated from Ingalls High School and attended Fort Hays State College for two years, earning her teaching certificate. She taught for two years in Kensington, Kansas.

She was united in marriage to Oren M. Christy on August 5, 1951, in Kensington, Kansas. They made their home on a farm North of Agra, Kansas. Velda and Oren were blessed with three children, Debra, Steve, and Patrice.

Velda was involved in various ladies groups in the community. She taught Sunday school and was a substitute teacher for Eastern Heights. After the kids left home, she taught Art at Eastern Heights for ten years. She loved to knit and paint.

Velda is preceded in death by her husband Oren, parents Elmer and Viola, daughter Patrice Rhodes, son-in-law Hank Rhodes, granddaughter Christy Rhodes, and son-in-law Dave Stohs.

Survivors include daughter Debra Stohs of Marysville, Kansas, son Steve Christy and wife Deb of Norton, Kansas, 7 grandchildren: Michel Stohs and wife Carolina, Jennifer Sparks, Andrea Stohs, Keath Christy and wife Ashley, Jamie Rhodes, Stuart McDowell, and Bridget Butterfield, as well as 5 great grandchildren: Lucas Stohs, and Porter, Emma, Kennedy, and Layton Sparks.

A funeral service for Velda will be held on Friday, June 20, 2025, at 10:30 a.m., at the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel, in Phillipsburg, Kansas. Burial will follow at the Agra Cemetery, in Agra, Kansas.

Velda will lie in state on Wednesday from 12 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Thursday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. at the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel in Phillipsburg, Kansas.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Phillips County Retirement Center or the Agra American Legion.
