Obituary

Verda Irene Schwisow, 88, of Lindsborg, KS, previously of Phillipsburg, KS, passed away on Tuesday, October 27, 2015 at Bethany Home. She was born on January 14, 1927, to Walter and Grace (Mumby) Schwisow. She attended elementary school in Swanton, NE, and graduated high school from Fairbury, NE, in 1944. Verda was well known in Phillipsburg as the "check out girl" at Boogaarts grocery store and was well loved by many local patrons and other employees. Verda's many hobbies included cooking and baking, needlepoint, quilting and gardening. She was well known in the community for her care giving of her elderly girlfriends and she considered these women to be her family. She also was very interested in her children and grandchildren's activities and attended many sporting events, recognitions, programs and concerts. Her favorite activity was, after moving to Concordia, attending her grandchildren's musical specials at church and community concerts. Verda was a very kind and loving person who never knew a stranger and loved every one genuinely.

Verda was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Grace Schwisow, brothers Glenn and Laurin Schwisow, and two daughters, Janice June and Jane Ann. Survivors include her children Doug (Connie) Schweitzer, Judy (Greg) Heiman, Jeff Schweitzer, Julie Elsasser, 19 grandchildren, and 30 great-grandchildren.
