Obituary

Warren Eugene Larick, son of Willie & Ruth (Gower) Larick, was born July 21, 1950 on the family farm southeast of Agra, Kansas. He passed away Friday, February 24, 2017 at the Phillips County Hospital in Phillipsburg, Kansas at the age of 66.

Warren had a happy childhood playing with his older brother, Wayne, sisters, Edna and Mary, and his many cousins. Warren and Wayne grew up loving sports, and Warren always wanted to play along with his older brother. One day Wayne rode his bicycle 1-1/2 miles to neighbors Leonard & Leland Rahjes' to play baseball. The young boys played for an hour or so and Wayne was getting ready to go home. About that time Warren pulls into the driveway on his tricycle, so tuckered out that he didn't have the energy to play ball or ride his trike back home!

Wayne & Warren marked out a baseball field in their pasture with bedsprings as a backstop where many games were played, along with many hours of football and basketball in the driveway. Warren played K18 baseball in the summers and was known for his "hard hits", breaking many of the team's wooden bats. He also enjoyed coaching Little League baseball in Agra.

He graduated from Agra Grade School in 1964 and Eastern Heights High School in 1968, then attended Fort Hays State University and graduated in 1974 with a Physical Education degree and Business degree. His job experience after college included working at Tamko, making fiberglass tanks in Rush Center for KBK Industries, carrying mail in Hays, delivering milk in Russell, and later joining his brother, Wayne, running the family's farm.

Warren loved spending time with his friends. Along with David Rust, Pat Johnson, Rodney and Roger Baker, Pat Allen, and several others, they had many stories to tell about their trips to ballgames, concerts and state fairs.

In addition to spending time with friends, Warren dearly loved dogs, especially Labs. He treated his dogs very well and was always happy when they went to good homes.

To all of his nieces and nephews, Warren was the "fun Uncle". They adored him and looked forward to any opportunity to stay at his house watching movies and eating snacks. He'd let them drive his yellow Toyota pickup up and down the farm roads (supervised, of course) when they were not yet old enough to get their licenses.

On February 7, 2008, Warren married the love of his life, Jeneviel Vidal, in a small wedding at Heartland Worship Center in Agra. Then later, on May 10, the couple renewed their vows at Heartland with their church family, relatives and friends in attendance.

Warren & Jenny's marriage was gloriously blessed on February 18, 2014, when Jenny gave birth to twin boys, Patrick and David. No one was prouder of his family and his sons than Warren, who had their football careers already planned out – Patrick, the quarterback and David, the linebacker. It was common to see the boys wear shirts or hats with Nebraska Cornhuskers logos, which was Warren's favorite team. He loved watching the boys learn new things and had recently been helping them with their ABC's.

Warren's church was also a focal point of his life. He enjoyed seeing his friends there, listening to the music, and hearing God's word through Pastors Darrell Schmid and Jonathan Gibson. His Facebook posts conveyed his faith and love of his church: "Our God is an awesome God", and "If you need a church and want God in your life, come to the Heartland Worship Center."

Warren was a caring husband & father who cherished his family and friends. He loved life, had a wonderful sense of humor, and will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Willie & Ruth Larick, and brother, Wayne.
