Obituary

Wauneta Berdina McRae was born May 30, 1927, in Franklin County, Nebraska to James and Regina (Schnuerle) McRae and passed away September 5, 2012 at the Phillips County Hospital in Phillipsburg, KS.

She attended grade school at Sunny Hill country school and high school at Franklin High School.

One of Wauneta's childhood memories was the flood that swept down the Republican River valley. She remembered that the water filled the valley from hill to hill.

When Wauneta and Mart Abbott were married on August 24, 1947, in Phillipsburg, Kansas, her sister, Bertha and Earl Bradley were married at the same time.

Mart and Wauneta made their home on the Abbott homestead in Phillips County, Kansas, until they moved to Agra, Kansas in 1992. She lived there until moving into the Kensington Rest Home in 2009.

Wauneta taught at a little country school and also at the Agra High School for a short time.

Two children blessed their home, Alan James and Anita Ann.

Wauneta was a very loving wife, mother and grandmother. She always enjoyed spending time with her family and friends and took great pride in spoiling her grandchildren.

Wauneta and Mart attended the Snow Church and later the Phillipsburg Methodist Church until they moved to Agra when they started attending the Agra Methodist Church which she was a very active member. Her faith was very important to her.

Wauneta was an active member of the Prairie Maidens Club along with many of her friends.

When Mart and Wauneta had the empty nest syndrome, they enjoyed many years of going to square dances with their friends. There were many evenings enjoyed playing pitch with family and friends. She is remembered for making her wacky cake late at night after a good game of pitch with persuasion from her husband.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Mart, in 1999; her parents; her sister, Josephine Goodyear; and two brothers, Colin and Leonard McRae.

Those surviving are her son and wife, Alan and Waynetta Abbott; her daughter and husband, Anita and George Miller; ten grandchildren: Amy Jo Miller, Christina and Mike Heatley, Jesse and Katie Miller, Kenton and Darla Abbott, Regina and Andrea Abbott, Staci and Kraig Reimer, Jodi and Travis Bouchey and Kevin Morrison. She is also survived by twelve great-grandchildren; her sister, Bertha Bradley; nieces and nephews, and many other relatives and friends.

Alan and Anita would like to thank the many special family and friends that stepped up and helped their Mother when they were unable to.

Funeral services will be held Wed., Sept. 12, at 2:00 p.m. in the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel, Phillipsburg, with Pastor Becky Davison officiating. Burial will follow in the West Cedar Cemetery, Phillips County.

Visitation will be Monday from 5 – 9 p.m. and Tuesday from 9 a.m. – 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
