Obituary

Wava  Lee Breathouwer Hogan was born March 30, 1929 in Prairie View, Kansas. She  passed away at the Andbe Home in Norton, Kansas on October 24, 2020 at the age of 91. She was the daughter of Harold Breathouwer and Ethel Meyers Breathouwer.

Wava grew up in the Prairie View and graduated from Prairie View High School. She worked in Norton for a short time before meeting the love of her life Roy Hogan. They were married July 7, 1947 at the Luctor Parsonage in Prairie View and made their home in Long Island, Ks.  To this union three children born Leland Gene, Brenda Joan and David Lee.

She was a homemaker and spent a good part of her life caring for many other children of the area, babysitting them while their Moms worked and cared for them just like they were her own.  In later years she was cook at the Long Island School system and retired from there to spend her time with her husband, kids and grandkids and great grandchildren.

Aside for being a great cook she loved to crochet. She never learned to read a pattern however all she had to do was look at a project and she could make it. One her favorite things to make was a baby blanket and she usually had one ready when new babies arrived for families and friends of the newborns.

Wava was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary receiving her 50 year membership pin.  She was a faithful member of the Luctor Christian Reform Church and both she and Roy raised their children in the church.

She was preceeded in death by her husband Roy, parents Harold and Ethel Breathouwer, a brother Leland Gene in infancy, a sister Patsy Lindenmeyer, a  brother in law, Jerry Bantam and a grandson, Dustin Hogan.

Survivors include son Leland Hogan and wife Kathy Hastings Neb., daughter Brenda Hogan-Matson and husband Kent Douglas Matson of Norton and son David Hogan and wife Nancy of Long Island. A sister Donna Bantam of Norton, sister in law Alice Hogan of Denver, Colo

Grandchildren and Great grandchildren include:  Robin Hogan Kappler and spouse Brady, Katyn and Sam of Eagle, Nebraska, Pattie Hogan, Max and Maggie of Omaha,  Justin Hogan and wife Debbie, Hunter, Kylor and Jensen of Densmore, Travis Hogan and wife Mandy, Mason, Delila, Karlene and Boone of Norton, Dillon Hogan and fiancé Cheyenne of Long Island as well as many other relatives and friends.

A graveside service will be held Wed., Oct. 28 at 1:30 p.m. in the Luctor Cemetery, Phillips County, with Pastor Shawn Richardson officiating.  The service will be streamed live on the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel facebook page.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Luctor Christian Reformed Church.

Visitation will be from 9:00 to 9:00 Tues. at the funeral home.
