Obituary

Phillipsburg resident, Wayne Earl Groom, passed away January 23, 2013 at the Logan Manor Nursing Home in Logan at the age of 91.

Wayne was born May 10, 1921 in Plainville, Kansas the son of Earl & Laura (Jones) Groom. He graduated from Phillipsburg High School.

He was united in marriage to Lois Lemon on May 31, 1942 in Phillipsburg before he entered into the United States Air Force in 1942. He served as a camera technician until his discharge in 1946. The couple then returned to Phillipsburg where Wayne worked as a Motion Picture Projectionist at the Majestic Theater for more than 50 years.

He had a lifelong passion for learning and was well read on subjects such as art and history. His military experience and interest in history led him to become quite knowledgeable about vintage military memorabilia. In his spare time he loved to oil paint and was also an avid hunter.

Wayne was a soft-spoken, loving and dedicated husband, father & grandfather who shared his thirst for knowledge and his appreciation for the beauty of art & nature with his daughter and granddaughter. He will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved him.

Wayne was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Lois, on March 7, 2011.

Survivors include his daughter, Dawn R. Wollard and granddaughter, Bethany L. Wollard of Phillipsburg; one sister, Myrna Townley & husband, Bernard of Glade, KS; and nieces & nephews.

Cremation was planned. A memorial graveside will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 28, 2013 in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Phillips County, KS, with Pastor Joel Hiesterman officiating.
