Obituary

William R. Hoover, son of Clarence & Clara (Overton) Hoover, was born July 9, 1925 in Glade, Kansas and died Monday, November 30, 2015 at his home in the Prairie Winds Villa Assisted Living in Phillipsburg, Kansas at the age of 90.

On December 6, 1944, William was united in marriage to Katherine Babcock in the Phillipsburg Christian Church Parsonage. He then served two years in the United States Army during WWII, stationed in the Philippines.

Following his honorable discharge, the couple relocated to Nebraska to farm for a while. They returned to Phillipsburg in 1949, where Bill started his long-time career with the local power company. During those years their family lived in Lebanon from 1956 to 1965, Downs until 1971, and then Plainville, where they made their home for 28 years. The couple was blessed with two children, Barry & Rhonda.

In 1957 Bill became a Certified Television Technician, working nights and weekends repairing television sets and antennas. He, along with several others, started the Lebanon Saddle Club and Horse Show. During his years in Lebanon, Bill judged some local horse shows, served on the Lebanon school board and was a volunteer firefighter.

When the family moved to Plainville, he joined the local VFW and Lion's Club.

Bill retired from the power company after 39 years of service. He was a member of the Christian Church in Plainville, being baptized in 1978. He later transferred his church membership to Phillipsburg.

In 1999, Bill & Katherine became full-time tourists, living in their motor home and traveling to the 48 states, as well as Canada. After several years on the road, the couple finally came back to Phillipsburg to stay.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Buck; six sisters, Elva, Ethel, Margaret, Norma, Barbara & Infant Cynthia; and his wife, Katherine on November 28, 2011.

Survivors include his son, Barry & wife, Jan of Arlington, TX; his daughter, Rhonda Surratt & husband, Carroll of Panhandle, TX; 4 grandchildren, Christy Little & husband, Buddy; Aaron Brummer & wife, Kristie; Zachary Hoover & wife, Shannon and Joshua Hoover & wife, Ashley; 5 great grandchildren, Kayden & Carson Little and Luke, Katherine & Kade Hoover; a brother, Charles Hoover of Hickman, NE; and sister, Meredith Roberts of Lincoln, NE.

Funeral services will be held at the First Christian Church in Phillipsburg at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, December 5, 2015. Burial will follow in the Fairview Cemetery, Phillipsburg.

Mr. Hoover will lie in state from Noon until 9 p.m. Thursday and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday at the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel, Phillipsburg. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday evening at the funeral home for visitation.
