Wilma G. Hogan, daughter of Ren & Tonia (Van Loenen) DeBoer, was born in Dayton Township, Phillips County, Kansas on June 27, 1925 and passed away at the Norton County Hospital in Norton, Kansas on May 10, 2014, at the age of 88.
She grew up on a farm near Prairie View, attending school there and graduating with the high school class of 1941. After high school Wilma attended Fort Hays State University in Hays, Kansas.
Wilma moved to California for a while, living with her Aunt Grace Wilken and working in the first bank of several in her career. When she moved back to this area, Wilma worked at a bank in Norton, Kansas, the bank in Stuttgart, Kansas, and also the bank in Long Island, Kansas.
On April 16, 1953, Wilma married Orlin Gene Hogan in Prairie View, Kansas. This union was blessed with two children, Gene and Nancy.
Orlin & Wilma made their home on a farm near Long Island, Kansas where Wilma enjoyed being a wife, mother and homemaker. She enjoyed farm life, especially planting and tending her garden. Orlin passed away in December, 2009, and Wilma stayed at their home until February, 2010, when she moved to the Logan Manor.
In her spare time she enjoyed listening to Christian music, doing word search puzzles, and playing the accordion and piano.
Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband, Orlin, and three brothers: Robert, Bill, and John DeBoer.
She is survived by her son, Gene, of Long Island, KS; daughter, Nancy, of Phillipsburg, KS; brother-in-law, Raymond Hogan of Denver, CO; sisters-in-law, Alice Hogan of Denver, CO, and Wava Lee Hogan of Norton, KS; and several Nieces and Nephews.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 14, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. in the Luctor Christian Reformed Church, Phillips County. Burial will follow in the Luctor Cemetery.
Mrs. Hogan will lie in state from Noon until 9 p.m. Monday and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel, Phillipsburg, with the family receiving friends Tuesday evening from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Luctor Christian Reformed Church or Logan Manor Nursing Home.
