Wilma June Kipp was born June 20, 1915. She graduated from high school in Prairie View, Kansas. She attended business college in Denver, Colorado and then went to Washington D.C. where she worked for three years in the naval Dept. and Marine Corps. June entered the U.S. Army early in 1945 and was stationed at Fort Oglethorp, Georgia. She was placed in nurses training and then fulfilled her duty at Fitzsimmons Hospital in Denver. While caring for one of the young soldiers, June was mistaken for Ingrid Bergman by the patient's mother.
June was discharged from the service in the fall of 1946. She was united in marriage to Walter Meyer on Sept. 6, 1946 in Colby, Kansas and to this union one daughter, Brenda was born.
June was an employee of the U.S. Postal Service in Atwood for 19 years. Upon her retirement she and Walter moved to Phillipsburg where they made their home and June worked as a secretary in the SRS Office until her retirement in 1990.
June's hobbies included working in her yard and raising lovely flowers, needlework, crocheting and knitting.
June was a very caring person, warm and generous.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, August 5th, 2010 at the United Methodist Church in Atwood with Pastor Connie D. Wooldridge officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in the Prairie View Cemetery, Prairie View.
Mrs. Meyer will lie in state from Noon until 9 p.m. Tuesday and from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday in the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel, Phillipsburg.
